The Legal Stuff

I know…I know…The legal stuff is not all that exciting but when planning a wedding halfway across the world, it is the first thing you need to be thinking about. Without your visas or your marriage license, there will be no wedding at all. Here is what you need to know.

Visas:

If you and your soon to be hubby / wifey are both Canadian citizens, step one has already been completed for you and you should not have to worry about getting a visa to enter the US. If you are not from Canada, it is likely you will need a visa in order to enter the United States. I am not a visa expert and would suggest if you are unsure, contact the US embassy to gain clarification on visas prior to booking the big day.

Marriage Laws and Licenses:

Okay let’s move onto step number two…Las Vegas marriage laws.

Let’s be sure you and your boo are all ready to go. Both of you will have to be 18+ years old, not related to one another and not already married to another person.

To be married in the US, you will need an approved and valid marriage license authorized by the Clark County Marriage License Bureau. A license costs $102.00 USD.

1. Fill out the pre-application online form (Can be found on the Clark County Nevada website).
2. Arrive in Vegas prior to your wedding date and head to Clark County Marriage Bureau with a form of ID for you and your boo (driver’s license, passport or military ID).
3. Head to the express lane at the bureau and pick up your marriage license.

Keep in mind – depending on where you are from, your marriage may not be recognized back home. In Canada, marriages legally performed in foreign countries are usually valid. Meaning you should not have to register your marriage upon returning to Canada.

Now the Fun Stuff..

Ceremony Locations:

In Vegas, there are SO many different ceremony location options that cater to all different aesthetics. For more on ceremony locations feel free to check out my other blog posts to hear more in detail.

For your traditional Vegas wedding with groovy vibes I would suggest eloping at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The staff at The Little White Wedding Chapel are nothing shy of amazing. They are so beyond kind and phenomenal to work with. As a wedding vendor, who has worked with hundreds of different vendors it is not taken lightly when I say the staff are some of the best I have work with in this industry.

Transportation:

Getting around in Vegas is quite easy, straightforward and accessible. There are so many options for how you will explore all the Las Vegas has to offer.

Uber/Lyft: If you are unfamiliar, these are mobile apps where you can call a driver or schedule drives ahead of time. I love the convenience of these apps the most. No longer worrying about hunting down a cab. Keep in mind, you will need data or wifi to use this app.

Taxi: If you are sticking to the touristy part of Vegas and not heading out into the desert, a taxi may be the way to go. The streets are flooded with taxis ready to take you on your next ride.

Rental Vehicle: If you and your boo are not much drinkers, and plan to explore quite a bit, it would be cost effective and convenient to have a vehicle to drive yourselves around. If you are hiring a photographer, renting a vintage car is such a fun way to add onto your photo experience.

Party Bus: If you have guests tagging along for the big day hiring a party bus or a limo is ideal. This way you and your guests are getting to and leaving places at the same time, can I get a WOOOHOOO for no more waiting games. By renting a vehicle for all of your guests it takes the hassle of fighting for the next 10 taxis to get from point A to point B.
